The Prototype – Krupp Type St 309a Low-Loader

Between 1957 and 1966, Krupp manufactured a total of 15 of these special low-bed cars for the Deutsche Bundesbahn. They were designed to transport small but heavy loads—with a maximum payload of up to 21 metric tons. Their compact design did not allow for an air brake, which is why only one wheel set was secured by a hand brake. In addition to the DB, the NS also used vehicles of the same design.
