About the prototype: After the class 130 (maximum speed 140 km/h) and 131 (100 km/h), the DR put the class 132 (120 km/h) with electric heating equipment into service in 1974. This configuration was the optimal machine for the DR. The DR therefore procured 709 locomotives from the factory in Voroshilovgrad. After a few initial problems, a reliable and versatile machine was available to the operating service. The locomotives delivered in the first year were almost without exception distributed to important railroad depots with train hauling tasks in international passenger and freight traffic.
