About the model: The popular manufacturer BRAWA offers the detailed DR class 242 electric locomotive. The model has a Doehler & Haass decoder and therefore a variety of sound functions. The locomotive also has a three-light headlights and two tail lights as well as functional interior lighting. In addition to its technical highlights, the model also impresses with many visual features that give the model its authentic charm.

About the prototype: The two test locomotives of the first, newly developed electric locomotives E11 001 and 002 of the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) fulfilled the expectations placed in them. After some necessary improvements, production of the first series E11 for express train service and E42 for freight and passenger train service began in 1962. In contrast to the locomotives of the later deliveries, the locomotives have four combined double ventilation grilles on each side and stiffening beads on the frame side surfaces. The steps and handles also differed. The fronts of the E11 003-020 and E42 001-022 were clad with an apron below the buffer beam, which gave the locomotives a certain elegance. Similar to the DB's E10, however, these aprons led to problems in operation, which is why they were removed when inspections were due or simply not refitted. The locomotives of the E11 and E42 series, which were now also called 211 and 242, were subsequently used on the DR's electrified lines. It was only with the emergence of the successors to the 243 series and the political change that led to the merging of the Reichsbahn and Bundesbahn to form DB AG, that the now 109 and 142 series gradually began to be phased out. However, some are still in service with private railroad companies today.
