About the prototype: The class 65 was part of the new construction program of the German Federal Railroad and was first delivered in 1951. Its characteristic appearance gives the locomotive an appearance that is both powerful and elegant. Its preferred area of operation as a passenger train tender locomotive was suburban and light rail service in the Ruhr area as well as on the Odenwaldbahn and the Überwaldbahn. Some of the locomotives were later equipped with push-pull control. The 18 locomotives reached a top speed of 85 km/h with an output of 1,089 kW. In 1972, the last locomotive ran on the siding.
