Fleischmann 725104 N Doppel-diesel locomotive L5, NS, Ep.III Product Details
Fleischmann diesel-electric double locomotive L5 NS
As one of a total of four double locomotives of the type D 311, this locomotive was put into service by the German Wehrmacht in 1942 as D 311.04. It was intended for use with the "Schwerer Gustav 2" gun. However, this gun was not completed, so the locomotive was used in the Calais area.In September 1944, the locomotive ran aground on Dutch territory and was claimed by the Dutch State Railways as spoils of war. The attempt to restore the locomotive to running order failed due to a lack of parts. After the intervention of a scrap dealer in Haarlem, the locomotive returned to Germany, where it was put into service in 1950/51 as V 188 002 and was still in operation in the Franconian region until 1972.
