Accumulator railcar class ETA 150 with driving trailer of the Deutsche Bundesbahn
The class ETA 150 accumulator railcars were very popular with passengers due to their excellent ride comfort and low noise level. A total of 232 units were built between 1954 and 1965. In addition, 216 ESA 150 cab cars were put into service. The railcars, which were used primarily on flat lines, were also often referred to as the "Flashlight Express," the "Socket InterCity" or the "Battery Lightning. Their area of operation was the Augsburg area, Schleswig-Holstein, eastern Lower Saxony, Rhineland-Palatinate, southern Hesse, and the Ruhr area.
