The model corresponds to the 1970/71 delivery series of the VEB Waggonbau Görlitz to the Deutsche Reichsbahn. During this time, 6 units without a control compartment and 25 units with a control compartment were delivered for use in push-pull trains. After many years of use on long-distance services, they were gradually removed and used on local services, e.g. in the Elbe valley from Dresden to Schmilka and on the Halle S-Bahn.
