The small-series manufacturer KRES, founded in 1996 by Uwe Köstel and Matthias Rasch, has developed over the years into one of the leading manufacturers of model railroad railcars. KRES originally focused on the industrial production of electronic assemblies. It was not until 2004 that the company decided to develop its model railroad division. Just one year later, in 2005, the first model trains from its own production were delivered.

KRES started in October 1996 in Fraureuth, near Zwickau, with the production of electronic assemblies. The decision to enter the model train sector marked the beginning of a new era for the company. The production facility was continuously modernized and expanded, with a particular focus on testing and SMD assembly technology. Since 2002, the injection molding and toolmaking divisions have also been established at KRES.
