Prototype: The Shimmns-u 708 - special wagon for transporting steel

The telescopic hood wagons of the Shimmns 708 design were developed from the 1970s onwards to transport sensitive steel coils safely and protected from the weather. Equipped with three sliding hoods and five loading recesses in the vehicle frame, over 2,500 units were built for the German Federal Railways. Later, numerous wagons were added for other state railroads and leasing companies. The model shows a variant as it was used on the German Reichsbahn of the GDR (later DR) in Era V. The sliding hoods are not movable on the model for production reasons, but this does not detract from the appearance.
