Steel coils are sensitive goods that need to be protected from moisture during transportation. From the 1970s, the rail industry therefore developed special wagons with three telescopic hoods: the Shis 708 design, classified as Shimmns 708 from 1987. In the prototype, the hoods can be moved depending on the load and reveal the loading recesses in the wagon floor. The Deutsche Bundesbahn ordered more than 2,500 units, and others were produced for other railroad administrations and lessors such as VTG. The Lenz model is based exactly on the original from Era VI - with all the typical features and VTG lettering. The hoods of the model cannot be moved for production reasons.
