LGB 20493 diesel locomotive P 42 Amtrak AMD 103, III Ep. VI Product Details
When Amtrak was founded in 1971 and entrusted with the operation of passenger transportation in the USA, it only had existing rolling stock from the predecessor railroads at its disposal. The locomotives were mainly older E and F types. The project planning and procurement of a new locomotive - specially designed for passenger transport - was therefore begun. However, it took until 1992 for the first locomotives of the new generation to be delivered - the locomotives built by General Electric have the series designations P40DC, P42DC and P32AC-DM, depending on the equipment. Colloquially, however, they are known as "Genesis". With an engine output of between 3,200 and 4,250 hp - depending on the version - and a top speed of between 166 km/h and 177 km/h, the 21-metre-long locomotives, which weigh around 125 tons, still fulfil all the tasks assigned to them today. The differences to the heavy six-axle diesel locomotives used in freight transport can already be seen in their appearance: with a completely covered body, the four-axle locomotive fits in very well with the express train coaches, whether streamliners or the large double-decker coaches. The bogies bear a certain resemblance to those of the ICE - no wonder, as they come from the same manufacturer, Krupp or Siemens. The P32AC-DM is a special feature: although this locomotive has a smaller diesel engine, it can also run electrically from the conductor rail in the cities. This is particularly necessary in New York, as diesel locomotives are not allowed to run in the tunnels in Manhattan. A total of 269 of these locomotives were procured by Amtrak, a further 31 by the local transport company Metro North and another 21 by Via Rail from Canada. These locomotives are still in use throughout the country - but the replacement is already on its way: the Siemens-built ALC-42 "Charger", which will set new standards with its 4,500 hp and top speed of 200 km/h ...Model of the AMD 103 "Genesis" diesel locomotive of the American passenger transportation company Amtrak. The color scheme and lettering on No. 160 are an adaptation of the Phase III paint scheme that was applied to Amtrak's Dash 8-32BWH locomotives to celebrate Amtrak's 50th anniversary. All four wheel sets powered by two powerful BĂĽhler motors with ball bearings. Equipped with an mfx/DCC decoder with many light and sound functions. The cab lighting and instrument lighting can be switched in digital operation. The locomotive comes factory-equipped with US claw couplers, LGB system couplers are included. Length over buffers 77 cm.Highlights Special version for the Amtrak anniversary. mfx/DCC decoder. 2 high performance motors. Headlights can be controlled digitally. With sound.
