Märklin 00730 H0 24er Set Schwenkdachwagen Tals 968, DB, Ep.IV, WS Product Details
24 German Federal Railroad (DB) type Tals 968 four-axle, large-capacity swing-roof cars. Used to transport moisture-sensitive bulk goods. Red-brown basic paint scheme. All of the cars have 2 transfer platforms. 12 cars with hand brakes on one transfer platform and 12 cars without hand brakes. Type 665 bogies. Operating condition around 1984.
The swing-roof cars are detailed and to scale, with many separately applied details. There are 24 different car numbers. All of the cars have 2 separately applied transfer platforms and 12 cars have an adjusting wheel at the end of car 2. One of the long sides of each car has a center step and climbing handles as well as climbing holes on the upper body. The pivoting roof can be swiveled to the side manually. All of the cars are individually packaged in the display. Buffer height for all cars according to NEM. Length over buffers per car 14.4 cm.
The long block trains are among the trains that attract everyone's attention both in the prototype and in the model. They are usually made up of one type of car. For example, the "Lange Heinrich", an ore train that was still pulled by the powerful class 043 steam locomotives in the 1970s, is still fondly remembered. However, there are also loads that are very sensitive to moisture and therefore cannot be transported in wagons such as those of the Falns 182 type. From 1982, Talbot built a total of 140 examples of a wagon with the designation Tals 968 for the Deutsche Bundesbahn. They were fitted with a hinged roof to provide optimum protection for the load, which in this case was mostly salt for the chemical industry. Visually, the Tals 968 is particularly striking due to its cranked roof pillars, which lengthen the upper part of the wagon body at the front and make it look even more massive. With a tare weight of around 25 tons, the load can be a maximum of 65 tons. With 24 wagons in the prototype, this would be a very substantial load that would require a powerful draft horse. This is where the powerful class 151 can shine. The Tals 968 swing-roof cars are not only used in block trains, but also in mixed loads. Here and there, they always cut a fine figure, whether on the layout or in the display case.
