The prototype - Flexible and popular in local transportation
The class 998 was developed as a sidecar for the famous DB rail buses and was used to increase capacity in rural passenger service. Equipped with a service compartment, this type of car was a familiar sight on branch lines throughout Germany. The road number 998 042-6 corresponds to the condition at the beginning of the 1970s - ideal for Era IV layouts.
