Märklin 42191 Swiss Express Passenger Car Set: Modern SBB Design in Era IV
The Märklin 42191 passenger car set brings the iconic Swiss Express of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) to your H0 layout. With two type EWIII standard cars in the distinctive pebble gray/blood orange paint scheme, this set is a highlight for fans of Swiss rail traffic and Era IV.
The prototype: Type EWIII standard car of the Swiss Express
The Swiss Express was one of the most modern train compositions in Switzerland in the 1970s. With its type EWIII standard coaches, it offered comfortable and efficient passenger service. The set includes:
- One type A (1st class) large-capacity car.
- One type B (2nd class) large-capacity car.
The coaches bear the road numbers 2 and 12 and are used on the Genève-Lausanne-Bern-Zurich HB train route. The eye-catching pebble grey/blood orange color scheme made the Swiss Express a pioneer of modern train design.
Detailed and high-quality realization
The model set impresses with numerous prototypical details and state-of-the-art technology:
- Completely new design: exact replica of the EWIII coach family with type-specific bogies, roof shapes, side walls and underbodies.
- Standard LED interior lighting: Installed in both cars, with buffer capacitor to bridge powerless areas.
- Current-conducting close couplers: Can be separated, to supply the entire set in combination with the marker light car from set 42190.
- Separately applied details: Fans, grab irons, control cables and steps on the bogies.
- Individual design: imprinted car running signs, serial numbers as well as clip-on transfer end doors and a sliding picture set with additional car numbers.
The cars are suitable for a minimum radius of 360 mm and have an overall length over buffers of approx. 56.6 cm.
Possible combinations for the complete Swiss Express
Together with the additional 42190 car set and five additional sets, a prototypical 14-piece set of the Swiss Express can be represented. The matching electric locomotive (item number 38420) is suitable for authentic operation. In addition, the Sputnik shunting coupler wagons (item number 46850) offer further interesting applications.
Conclusion: Swiss precision and design on your H0 layout
The Märklin 42191 Swiss Express passenger car set combines modern technology with authentic design. With its high-quality workmanship, the standard LED interior lighting, and the many possible combinations, this set is a must for collectors and model railroaders who appreciate Swiss rail traffic.
