About the prototype: The newly founded Deutsche Reichsbahn took over a large number of different passenger coaches after the First World War. The majority of these had wooden superstructures. In order to reduce maintenance costs and at the same time increase safety, standardized carriages with metal superstructures were developed. Particularly in the case of carriages for branch lines, the design was based on the predecessor models, which were mostly two-axle through carriages with open platforms. At the beginning of the 1930s, these wagons were modernized once again by giving them closed platforms and welded car bodies. Some of these wagons remained in service with Deutsche Bahn until the 1960s.

About the model: The 5-piece passenger car set from Märklin captures this operating condition of 1958. The set includes a PwPostie baggage/mail car, a 1st/2nd class ABie through car, and three 2nd class Bie through cars. All of the cars are equipped as standard with interior lighting that is powered by the current-carrying couplings on the cars. In addition, one of the 2nd class coaches has end-of-train lighting. The lighting can be controlled digitally with the 39782 locomotive, for example.
