The new close coupler head is specially designed for newly constructed locomotives with a prototypically lower buffer beam and thus a lower buffer height from the top of the rail (according to NEM 303) to ensure that the close coupler system can swing out below the buffer head. The new close coupler head is compatible with all common Märklin couplers.
