Soviet Technology in NVA Service – Mehlhose 210106003 H0 SPW-60PB with Box Body and Antenna

With the Mehlhose 210106003 SPW-60PB, Mehlhose brings an impressive model of the well-known Soviet BTR-60PB armored personnel carrier to your H0 model railroad layout. This version, equipped with a box-type body and a distinctive antenna, depicts a typical vehicle used by the communications, reconnaissance, or command units of the National People’s Army (NVA).

The Prototype—A Warsaw Pact Classic

The BTR-60PB (known in the GDR as the SPW-60PB) was the first four-wheel-drive, fully amphibious troop transport vehicle of the Soviet Union and its allies. Series production began in 1960, and the first public presentation took place in 1961. The SPW-60PB was equipped with two 6-cylinder gasoline engines (GAZ-49B), each producing 66 kW/80 PS, which could be operated independently of one another. With a length of 7.22 m, a weight of 9.5 t, and a top speed of up to 80 km/h (10 km/h in water), it was extremely versatile and capable off-road.

Model-specific configuration for specialized tasks

The version shown here features a body with boxes and an antenna—features that indicate a conversion for communications, command services, or other specialized tasks. The additional superstructure provides storage space for radio equipment, generators, or tactical gear, making the model a versatile military element on your H0 layout.

True to detail and ready for military scenes

The 1:87 scale model is precisely rendered with typical tank contours, axle-specific tires, NVA paint scheme, and functional equipment. The intricate design of the antenna, storage boxes, and vehicle superstructures makes this armored personnel carrier a true highlight for dioramas, military scenes, or combat exercises.

For enthusiasts of military technology and the diversity of NVA vehicles

Whether combined with other NVA vehicles, in a convoy, at a field camp, or during a maneuver—the SPW-60PB with storage box superstructure offers a wide range of applications for historically accurate or creatively interpreted model railroad scenes.
