Description

Piko 51904 electric locomotive BR 151, HSL, Ep. VI Product Details

About the prototype: The class 151 locomotives were produced between 1972 and 1978. These were intended primarily for heavy freight service and were supposed to eliminate the weaknesses of their predecessor, the class 150, at speeds of 80 km/h and above. The BZA Munich commissioned the AEG company with the development of the electrical part, and Maschinenfabrik Krupp with the vehicle part. Of the 170 locomotives procured, some are still in service today. Damaged class 151 locomotives are nowadays no longer repaired but scrapped and replaced by more modern alternatives.

In 2017, Deutsche Bahn sold a total of 100 locomotives of the class to a consortium of Railpool and Toshiba, and in December 2021, the last 151s in the Nordenham-Salzgitter heavy ore service were replaced by class 189 locomotives. Most of these models, which are still in service, were sold from the possession of DB Cargo to private railroad companies. One 151 was converted back to the original screw couplers at the end of its service life and exhibited in the DB Museum in Koblenz in a non-operational condition.

About the model: With this model, Piko reproduces one of the class 151s sold to private companies, which is now allowed to shine in the design of the HSL. It is precisely this paint scheme that is excellently reproduced by Piko and makes the locomotive, in addition to the many details on the running gear and electrical equipment, a visual highlight. In addition, the model has a Plux22 digital decoder and various sound options. A red, white light change, which is implemented in the form of LEDs, rounds off the excellent overall appearance.
