Piko 52310 H0 Diesel locomotive SM31, PKP, Ep. V - Poland's heavy shunting locomotive for your model railway

With the Piko H0 SM31 diesel locomotive from the PKP, a powerful classic of the Polish railroad system comes to your layout. From 1973, Fablok in Chrzanów developed a six-axle locomotive based on the SM42 with the axle arrangement Co'Co', which was intended for heavy shunting and freight duties. Between 1976 and 1981, the PKP took over a total of 167 machines, which were classified as SM31 003-169. The SM31 was thus one of the most powerful diesel locomotives in the Polish State Railways' fleet during Era V.

Model with many loving details

The model is equipped with free-standing railings and ladders, a rotating roof ventilator and fine, perforated ventilation grilles. The digitally switchable driver's cab and running gear lighting can be retrofitted via the NEM 658 PluX22 interface. The direction of travel-dependent light change in white/red is integrated as standard.

SM31 - a strong loner with an eventful history

Although originally designed for export to the RGW area, the SM31 remained exclusively in use in Poland. Many of the machines originally built for industry were transferred to the PKP after a short time, as the locomotive was only suitable for industrial track systems to a limited extent due to its mass and length. However, it was extremely popular for heavy shunting and transfer traffic.

Digitally prepared & sound capable

The model is equipped with a PluX22 digital interface. A PIKO sound decoder (#56607) can easily be retrofitted. This allows the locomotive to be ideally integrated into digital operating sequences - also with light functions and optional sound.
