Description

Piko 96893 H0 electric loco Re 4/4 I 409, SBB, Ep. III, DC-Sound Product Details

PIKO 96893 H0 Electric locomotive Re 4/4 I 409, SBB, Ep. III, DC sound

The Re 4/4 I of the Swiss Federal Railways was one of the most striking electric locomotives of the post-war era. The first 26 locomotives with the road numbers 401 to 426 were delivered in the fir green livery prescribed at the time. Between 1955 and 1959, however, two locomotives deviated from this color scheme on a trial basis. This gave locomotive 409 a striking sapphire blue appearance - a real rarity in everyday Swiss railroad life in those years, which was otherwise dominated by shades of green and brown.

Unique paintwork and historical model

Locomotive 409 wore its sapphire blue livery between 1955 and 1959, while its sister locomotive 416 was painted lime green, based on the livery of the famous Ae 8/14. Both variants clearly stood out from the usual SBB livery and attracted the attention of railroad enthusiasts and passengers alike. The PIKO 96893 picks up exactly this striking phase of the Re 4/4 I 409 and realizes it in the model true to detail.

Model with prototypical sound and extensive details

The PIKO model is based on the design of the 1950s and shows the locomotive with horizontal blinds on the side walls, free-standing windshield wipers and a delicately designed roof garden. Two fine metal scissor pantographs complete the roof section. A factory-installed PluX22 sound decoder provides an authentic sound and realistically reproduces the characteristic sounds of the Re 4/4 I.

Digitally switchable lighting for realistic effects

The locomotive has digitally switchable cab and engine room lighting. The direction of travel-dependent light change in white/white corresponds to the prototype of Era III. This allows the Re 4/4 I 409 to be operated true to the prototype on modern digital layouts and to be presented in a visually realistic manner. The integrated PluX22 interface also enables future extensions or individual adaptations.

Technically sound for direct current operation

With a length over buffers of 169 mm and a minimum radius of 358 mm, the locomotive is ideal for use on H0 DC layouts. Two traction tires ensure good traction when running. The close coupler link with NEM shaft ensures a reliable connection with other vehicles. The PIKO 96893 is aimed at model railroaders aged 14 and over who place particular value on historical prototypes, unusual paintwork and digital functionality.
