PIKO 96894 H0 Electric locomotive Re 4/4 I 409, SBB, Ep. III, AC sound
The SBB Re 4/4 I was one of the best known and most reliable electric locomotives in post-war service in Switzerland. A total of 50 locomotives were built between 1950 and 1956. The locomotives with the road numbers 401 to 426 were initially delivered in the classic fir green livery, which was the standard in Switzerland for decades. However, two locomotives stood out with a special livery variant - including the Re 4/4 I 409, which was in service from 1955 to 1959 in a sapphire blue livery and thus represented an absolutely unique feature in the SBB's appearance at the time.
A one-off on Swiss rails
The decision to give two locomotives a different color was part of an SBB test program. While the 416 was painted lime green - similar to the three Ae 8/14s - the 409 was given a sapphire blue locomotive body, which stood out clearly from the usual fir green scheme. This made it a real eye-catcher on the Swiss railroad network of the 1950s and not only attracted the attention of railroad enthusiasts, but also the curious glances of travelers.
Faithful reproduction with digital sound and light
The PIKO 96894 reproduces the Re 4/4 I 409 locomotive in exactly this blue color variant and impresses with numerous high-quality details. These include two finely crafted metal scissor pantographs, an elaborately designed roof garden and free-standing windshield wipers. The design is based on the design of the 1950s, recognizable among other things by the horizontal blinds on the side walls. The factory-fitted PluX22 sound decoder provides a prototypical soundscape. The model is mfx®-compatible and therefore offers full digital convenience.
Digital light functions for realistic operating scenes
The locomotive has digitally switchable cab and engine room lighting, allowing various operating situations to be simulated true to the original. The light changes depending on the direction of travel in white/white and contributes to the authentic appearance of Era III. Thanks to the NEM shaft with close coupler link, the locomotive can be easily integrated into existing vehicle formations.
Technically mature for AC operation
With a length over buffers of 169 mm and a minimum radius of 358 mm, the locomotive is ideal for use on all H0 AC layouts. Two traction tires ensure reliable traction even in demanding track conditions. The PIKO 96894 is therefore an ideal model for discerning collectors and railway enthusiasts aged 14 and over who are enthusiastic about Era III and special livery variants of the Swiss railroads.
