PIKO 97527 H0 Electric locomotive EP09, PKP, Ep. V, DC sound
A new locomotive series was required at the end of the 1980s for the high-quality passenger service on the main lines of the Polish State Railways (PKP), especially between Warsaw and Krakow. The EP05 series locomotives, which had been in use since the 1970s and were originally the result of conversions of the EU05, were no longer able to meet the operational requirements in terms of speed, availability and technical standards. The EP05 was getting on in years and the number of units produced was limited.
The development of the EP09 at the manufacturer Pafawag
In this situation, the Pafawag company in Breslau developed the new locomotive type 104E, which was put into service under the series designation EP09. The locomotives fully met the expectations placed in them, which prompted the PKP to purchase a total of 45 additional units by 1997. The EP09 was used throughout the country and almost completely replaced the older EP05. Its construction was specially designed for operation at 160 km/h in scheduled service.
Technically convincing model realization with sound
The PIKO 97527 is a form variant of the EP09 and brings the characteristic features of the prototype machine precisely into the H0 format. The model is factory-equipped with a PluX22 sound decoder, which enables authentic soundscapes via the PIKO TrainSound® system. The decoder also allows digital switching of the driver's cab and engine room lighting, allowing the model to be staged in a particularly realistic way.
Detailed design and mechanical precision
Coherent paintwork and precise printing are just as much a part of the equipment as the consideration of structural features of the respective prototype machine. Two finely crafted metal scissor pantographs adorn the roof of the locomotive and underline the high level of detail. The driver's desk lighting adds to the impressive overall picture. The light changes in white and red depending on the direction of travel.
For demanding DC model railroaders of Era V
With a length over buffers of 193 mm and a minimum radius of 358 mm, the PIKO 97527 is ideally suited for use on modern DC layouts. The locomotive has a digital interface according to NEM 658 PluX22 as well as a close coupler link with NEM shaft. This makes it an excellent choice, both technically and visually, for all model railroaders aged 14 and over who want authentic vehicles in the style of Era V.
