The German State Railroad's class 132 diesel locomotive is a powerful, reliable model for prototypical long trains. The design of the class 132 was derived from experience with the classes 130 and 131. The DR procured 709 units of the optimized locomotive with electric heating equipment from the Voroshilovgrad locomotive factory in the Soviet Union. The top speed was set at 120 km/h, and the output of the versatile machine was 3,000 hp.
