About the prototype: 100 Years of ÖBB - The railroad in Austria has always had an eventful history. On July 19, 1923, the National Council passed the Federal Railways Act, which established the Austrian Federal Railways (BBÖ) as a separate economic entity for the first time. The enormous coal shortage at the time led to a surge in electrification. After the turmoil of the Second World War, the focus was on reconstruction. This was followed by the replacement of the steam locomotives and the introduction of the first regular-interval timetable.Following its transformation into a company in 1992 on the occasion of its imminent accession to the EU, ÖBB was restructured in 2004 as the ÖBB Holding AG group with operating subsidiaries. The Railjet trains were put into operation with the 2008/2009 timetable change. They are among the fastest locomotive-hauled trains in the world.100 years later, the Austrian Federal Railways are celebrating this historic event. To mark the occasion, a particularly attractive Railjet is being put on the rails. The motto of this train is: "100 years of ÖBB - 100 reasons to work for ÖBB".
