Description

Roco 6200026 H0 4er Set Schlierenwagen 'JAFFA-Express', Ep.IV #1 Product Details

Car set 1 with four Schlieren cars of the regular set for the "Jaffa-Express" of the Austrian Federal Railways. Consisting of one 1st class car, type Apo, one 2nd class car with buffet compartment "Stamperlwagen", type Bpoz and two 2nd class cars, type Bpo.

Due to the increased frequency of express city train services, the 4010 series railcars were increasingly used on the Westbahn with the 1975 summer timetable. As a replacement for these sets, locomotive-hauled coach trains with the then modern Schlieren coaches were to be used on the Southern line. In order to offer passengers there better quality as well, the Schlieren coaches used in these trains were fitted with plush seats instead of the previous artificial leather seating. While the 1st class coaches were upgraded from coaches already in the fleet, the 2nd class coaches initially came mostly from 300 series coaches that had just been delivered. These train sets were supplemented with newly procured coaches for the mobile buffet service - the so-called "Stamperlwagen" - from the same series.

These "urban express train sets" were also intended to stand out externally. The livery of these coaches was therefore based on the ET 4010, although blood orange was used instead of blue to match the 1042.5 series, which was to be used in front of these trains. In the train diagrams, these coaches were marked as "g. K." - coaches with superior comfort. These trains in blood orange and ivory were very eye-catching and looked much more appealing than the previously predominant shades of green. The term "Jaffa Express" was soon born. After the delivery of 1044.01 and 02, these two locomotives were also to be seen in these rotations.
