The Deutsche Bahn 218 433 diesel locomotive with separately applied plug-in parts and headlights and marker lights that can be switched using a DIP switch. This model also has prototypically low wheel flanges and LED marker lights at the outer headlight positions.
From 1971, the German Federal Railroad put 398 BR 218 series locomotives into service and used them in front of both passenger and freight trains. They are used on most non-electrified lines and reach a maximum speed of 140 km/h with an output of 1,840 kW. Locomotives are currently still in service at the Ulm, Kempten and Mühldorf am Inn depots.
