Roco 7500024 electric locomotive 1116 181-9, ÖBB, Ep. VI

In 2019, ÖBB launched an upgrade program to renew the double-decker trains (DOSTO). This will optimize around 100 carriages to modern Cityjet standards by 2023. The modernization includes on-board WiFi, new seat covers, multi-purpose areas in every intermediate carriage with more space for bicycles, baby carriages and luggage as well as newly furnished rest areas.

In May 2022, halfway through the current DOSTO upgrade program, the electric locomotive 1116 181 was painted in the Cityjet design. ÖBB is thus sending out an important signal for attractive public transport services and especially local commuter transport in Lower Austria.
