Roco 7500204 H0 Electric Locomotive BR 146 013-8 DB AG Ep. VI – Electric Locomotive in the Felsenbühne Rathen Design

Would you like to expand your H0 model railroad layout with a modern Deutsche Bahn electric locomotive featuring an extraordinary design? The Roco 7500204 BR 146 013-8 brings the contemporary regional rail service of Era VI to your tracks. The model features the eye-catching “Felsenbühne Rathen” design and combines the characteristic shape of the Class 146 with finely crafted details. Particularly eye-catching are the printed destination display, the multicolored cab back wall, and the detailed control panel. As a DC model with analog control, this electric locomotive is ideal for classic model railroad operation. The direction-dependent LED lighting, featuring three white headlights and two red tail lights, enhances the prototypical appearance. Four powered axles, a flywheel, and an axle with traction tires round out the technical features. Whether pulling double-decker cars or other compatible passenger cars—this Roco electric locomotive is an interesting addition to your modern H0 fleet.

Prototype: The Class 146 in German regional rail service

Deutsche Bahn needed powerful electric locomotives for commuter service that could haul modern passenger trains at speeds of up to 160 km/h. Fast and reliable locomotives were particularly in demand for hauling double-decker trains. For this reason, the manufacturer Bombardier developed a special commuter variant of the Class 145, which was added to the fleet as the Class 146.

A key technical difference from the Class 145 is the hollow-shaft drive—designed for higher speeds—which replaces the plain-bearing drive. Another distinctive feature is the eye-catching destination display on the front, which underscores its use in passenger service.

In 2001 and 2002, a total of 31 locomotives were delivered to DB Regio. Two additional production series followed later. The Class 146 became an important part of electric regional rail service in Germany. The Roco model 146 013-8 draws on this real-life history and combines the typical design with the distinctive “Felsenbühne Rathen” design.

Distinctive Design and Finely Crafted Details

The Roco BR 146 013-8 clearly stands out from ordinary regional service locomotives thanks to its distinctive design. The “Felsenbühne Rathen” design gives the model a unique character and makes it an eye-catcher on your H0 layout.

The printed destination sign complements the striking front end and emphasizes its role as a passenger locomotive. In the cab, the multicolored rear wall and the correspondingly designed control panel add visual depth. The combination of the locomotive’s distinctive shape and carefully crafted details makes this model appealing even to discerning collectors.

Direction-dependent LED lighting

The Roco 7500204 features a direction-dependent LED headlight. Three white headlights illuminate on the respective front end, while two red taillights at the other end of the locomotive indicate the direction of travel. This automatic light change ensures a realistic representation of the locomotive in layout operation.

The model is designed for analog DC operation. An electrical interface for PluX22-compliant locomotives is included and provides a basis for potential digital retrofitting with a suitable decoder. According to the available technical specifications, a digital decoder and sound function are not included in this analog version.

Drive System and Running Characteristics

To ensure reliable model railroad operation, the electric locomotive features four powered axles, one axle with traction tires, and a flywheel. This combination promotes smooth running and provides a solid foundation for hauling compatible passenger cars.

The minimum curve radius is 358 mm. With a length over buffers of 217 mm, the locomotive can be easily incorporated into the layout of your model railroad. The NEM 362 coupler sockets with close-coupling kinematics allow for coupling with compatible cars and contribute to the harmonious appearance of the train set.

Suitable train combinations for Era VI

The Class 146 was developed specifically for use with modern passenger trains. The Roco electric locomotive therefore combines particularly well with double-decker cars, such as those commonly found in German regional rail service. Other suitable Era VI passenger cars can also be combined to create varied train formations.

On your H0 model railroad layout, this model is ideal for electrified main lines, larger stations, and modern regional rail scenarios. Its distinctive design adds a special visual touch. Thanks to its analog control system, the locomotive is particularly appealing to model railroaders who operate their fleet in the traditional manner or who may wish to retrofit the model with digital controls later, if desired.

Roco 7500204 BR 146 013-8 – Modern Electric Locomotive for Your Model Railroad

The Roco 7500204 H0 electric locomotive BR 146 013-8 from Deutsche Bahn combines an interesting real-life history with an extraordinary appearance and robust drive technology. The “Felsenbühne Rathen” design, the printed destination display, and the multicolored cab design give the model an unmistakable character.

With four powered axles, a flywheel, traction tires, and direction-dependent LED lighting, the DC version provides a solid foundation for analog layout operation. The PluX22 interface also opens up possibilities for future digital retrofitting.

If you’d like to expand your H0 model railroad with a striking electric locomotive for modern regional rail service, the Roco BR 146 013-8 is an attractive choice. Add this special model to your fleet and bring Deutsche Bahn’s regional rail service to your model railroad tracks!
