The locomotives were designed in a striking silver, red and light blue livery and made it possible to run a continuous service without changing locomotives at the border - a milestone in modern long-distance transportation. By eliminating the need to change locomotives at the border between Switzerland and Italy, the journey time was significantly reduced. Following the delayed delivery of new multiple units, Cisalpino service ended at the end of 2007.
