Roco 7510282 H0 Electric Locomotive EP05-23 PKP – Retro Locomotive, Era VI, with DCC Sound

Are you looking for an exceptional electric locomotive that combines Polish railway history with modern digital technology, authentic sound, and impressive lighting features? Then the Roco 7510282 EP05-23 electric locomotive from the Polish State Railways (PKP) is an excellent choice for your H0 model railroad layout. This elaborately designed retro locomotive captivates with its historic paint scheme, delicate spoked wheels, and extensive digital features.

Particularly interesting is the combination of a classic express train locomotive and modern model railroad technology. In addition to an integrated PluX22 sound decoder, the Roco EP05-23 features individually switchable headlights and tail lights, cab and engine room lighting, as well as digitally switchable undercarriage lighting—a first for the PKP design.

This makes this historic electric locomotive a special experience on your model railroad layout—not only visually but also technically.

The Roco EP05-23 – Polish Express Train History in 1:87 Scale

The EP05 series is one of the best-known classic electric locomotives of the Polish State Railways. Its history began in 1961, when the PKP ordered a total of 30 four-axle electric locomotives from the Czechoslovak manufacturer Škoda in Pilsen.

The locomotives were based on the proven E 499.1 series of the Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) and were initially added to the PKP fleet as the EU05 series.

As Poland’s express rail service expanded, the demands placed on the locomotives in service increased. In particular, the Centralna Magistrala Kolejowa, constructed starting in 1971, which provided important transportation links between Warsaw and the regions of Kraków and Katowice, required powerful and fast locomotives.

Between 1973 and 1977, the EU05 locomotives were modified at the Gdańsk repair shop to accommodate higher speeds. By changing the gear ratio, the maximum permitted speed was increased to 160 km/h.

With this technical modernization, the locomotives were given the new class designation EP05. At the same time, the previous two-tone green paint scheme was replaced with a striking orange paint job.

With its retro design, the Roco 7510282 EP05-23 commemorates this significant era in Polish railway history and presents the traditional express train locomotive in an Era VI version.

Elaborate retro paint scheme and detailed craftsmanship

Historic appearance with high recognition value

The Roco EP05-23 impresses with its meticulously applied paintwork and elaborate decals. The retro design captures the characteristic appearance of Polish express locomotives, making the model a real eye-catcher.

The distinctive body shape, the prototype-accurate lettering, and the finely crafted details create an authentic overall impression.

Whether at the head of a classic express train, as a special locomotive on a modern PKP layout, or as a collector’s item in a display case—the EP05-23 combines historic railroad tradition with an attractive model design.

Delicate bogies and finely crafted spoked wheels

A special feature of the Roco 7510282 is the elaborate reproduction of the undercarriage.

The bogies have been designed with delicate detail and equipped with intricate spoked wheels. Fine metal wheels with low flanges underscore the locomotive’s true-to-prototype character.

It is precisely these characteristic wheel sets that give the EP05 its unmistakable technical appearance.

The pantographs have also been designed with an innovative mounting system. As a result, the roof-mounted equipment blends harmoniously into the detailed overall appearance of the electric locomotive.

Digital sound for a realistic rail experience

The Roco 7510282 comes factory-equipped with a PluX22 sound decoder and is designed for digital DC operation.

The model thus combines the historic appearance of the EP05 with modern capabilities of digital model railroad control.

The integrated sound functions provide an auditory accompaniment to the train’s operation and add an extra dimension to the electric locomotive.

Together with the extensive lighting functions, this creates a particularly lively operating experience that impresses whether the locomotive is shunting or pulling an express train.

The digital features make the locomotive particularly appealing to model railroaders who value realistic operation and individually controllable functions.

Individually controllable headlights and tail lights

The Roco EP05-23 features modern LED lighting with direction-dependent light changes.

The model has a three-light headlight and two tail lights.

In digital mode, the headlights and tail lights can be switched on and off individually. This allows for different lighting scenarios to be simulated to match the respective operating conditions.

This feature is particularly useful for prototypical train operations and enables flexible lighting control via the digital control center.

Digitally controllable cab and engine room lighting

In addition to the headlight and tail light, the Roco 7510282 offers other interesting lighting functions.

The cab lighting can be activated separately in digital mode, allowing for an atmospheric depiction of the cab.

The engine room lighting is also digitally controllable and effectively highlights the technical interior of the electric locomotive.

These additional features really come into their own, especially during runs at dusk or on a lit model railroad layout.

A special highlight: Switchable underbody lighting in the PKP design

An outstanding feature of the Roco EP05-23 is the PKP-style undercarriage lighting, which can be switched on in digital mode for the first time.

This feature allows you to selectively illuminate the detailed bogies and the characteristic spoked wheels.

This highlights precisely those components that significantly define the historical appearance of this electric locomotive.

The combination of undercarriage lighting, cab lighting, and engine room lighting makes the Roco 7510282 a particularly well-equipped H0 model.

Powerful drive with four powered axles

Technically, the Roco EP05-23 is also equipped for impressive model railroad operation.

Four driven axles ensure power is transmitted to the tracks. An integrated flywheel promotes smooth running and improves the locomotive’s coasting performance.

One axle is equipped with traction tires, which further enhance traction.

With a length over buffers of 186 mm, the electric locomotive features prototype-accurate proportions at a 1:87 scale.

The minimum required curve radius is 358 mm. This allows the model to be used on numerous standard H0 two-wire track systems.

PluX22 Sound Decoder for Digital Model Railroad Layouts

The Roco 7510282 is already digitally equipped and features an integrated PluX22 sound decoder.

The model is designed for digital DC operation and can be controlled using a suitable, compatible digital command station.

The digital features allow you to control the locomotive and use the built-in sound and lighting functions.

In particular, the separately controllable lighting zones offer numerous possibilities for varied and realistic model railroad operation.

The built-in PluX22 interface forms the technical foundation of the digital equipment.

Ideal for PKP express trains and historic retro train scenes

The Roco EP05-23 is particularly well-suited for model railroad layouts with a Polish or Eastern European railway theme.

Thanks to its retro design, the locomotive integrates perfectly into modern Era VI railway scenes where historic rolling stock takes center stage.

An attractive train set can be created, for example, with matching Polish express train cars or passenger cars featuring a historic appearance.

The EP05-23 also offers interesting design possibilities for depicting special trains and retro train events.

The NEM 362 coupler housing with close-coupling kinematics allows for the use of compatible coupler systems and facilitates combination with matching H0 passenger cars.

A special collector’s model for enthusiasts of Polish electric locomotives

The Roco 7510282 appeals to model railroad enthusiasts who appreciate exceptional vehicles with an interesting historical background.

For collectors of Polish railway vehicles, the EP05-23 is an attractive addition, as it showcases the PKP’s rich history of express trains in a modern retro design.

Discerning model railroaders will appreciate the detailed undercarriage design, the delicate spoked wheels, and the extensive digital features.

In particular, the digitally controllable undercarriage lighting—based on the PKP design and available for the first time—sets this model apart from many classic electric locomotives.

With a sound decoder, individually controllable headlights and taillights, as well as additional cab and engine room lighting, the locomotive offers numerous possibilities for varied operation.
