The Roco diesel railcar 174 001-8 with sidecar of the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) in Era IV is designed in a fictitious DR livery. The model is characterized by a delicate reproduction of the spring assemblies and separately attached shunting handles under the buffers. It is also equipped with interior lighting ex works and has authentic sound functions.
At the 1982 Leipzig Spring Fair, Waggonbau Studenka presented a railcar of the M152 series, which the DR rented for testing. After a few months, the test runs took place in the Halle/Magdeburg area in the fall of 1982. The railcar was given the series number 174 001-8 and initially retained its multi-colored paint scheme, while the sidecar was later painted in plain red. Due to a foreign trade deficit, the DR was unable to procure any further railcars, so the test vehicles were returned in December 1983.
