Description

Vollmer 43125 Gottlieb-Daimler-Gedenkstätte Product Details

The world-famous German engineer, designer and industrialist Gottlieb Daimler was born in Schorndorf near Stuttgart in 1834. In 1882, Daimler and his family moved into a villa in Cannstatt and converted the garden shed into a workshop for his designs and experiments. There he worked with Wilhelm Maybach on the idea of individual mobility. The two worked here day and night in absolute secrecy and neither family nor employees knew what was going on in the little house in the garden.

In 1886, Daimler installed his engine in a carriage, making him the inventor of the four-wheeled motor car. After successfully inventing the engine, the garden house quickly became too small for Daimler and Maybach and Daimler moved his workshop to a larger factory building in 1887. Today, the garden shed is a lovingly furnished memorial site that is true to the original and true to detail. The first steps towards the invention of the petrol engine were taken here and Daimler's vision of constructing a transportable universal engine for vehicles on water, on land and in the air can still be felt in the premises today.
