ASM Arndt Spezial Modelle 24001 N Set of 2 Passenger Cars Bmz EC 64, ÖBB, Era IV
Are you looking for a suitable N-gauge car set to complement the international EuroCity 64 “Mozart” from Vienna to Paris on your model railroad layout? The ASM Arndt Special Models 24001 N Set of 2 Bmz EC 64 Passenger Cars, ÖBB, Era IV is an excellent choice for model railroaders who want to recreate the high-quality passenger rail service of the mid- to late 1990s. With two Bmz passenger cars, this set is the perfect addition to a prototypical EuroCity train formation.
The EC 64 “Mozart” was a major connection between Austria, southern Germany, and France. Its route ran from Vienna via Linz, Salzburg, Munich, Augsburg, Ulm, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Strasbourg, and Nancy to Paris. This makes the set ideal for layouts designed to depict international passenger trains with long routes and varied operations.
EuroCity 64 “Mozart” in N scale
The predecessor to the “Mozart” first appeared in 1954 on a different route from Salzburg, and later from Munich to Paris. Starting in the late 1960s, the train connected Vienna—the city of Mozart—with the French capital, initially as an express long-distance train and, beginning in 1989, as a EuroCity. This set replicates the configuration from the mid- to late 1990s and is therefore an excellent fit for layouts featuring international long-distance service from Era IV.
A complete train consisted of eleven cars according to the schedule. The 2-car set with Bmz passenger cars is therefore particularly well-suited for expanding an existing EC 64 car formation or for beginning to build a longer “Mozart” train. Especially in N-gauge, such international long-distance trains can be impressively displayed, even when space on the layout is limited.
International Train Formation from Vienna to Paris
Various locomotives were used for the EC “Mozart.” The ÖBB used Class 1044 locomotives, the DB used Class 103 locomotives, and from Stuttgart to Strasbourg, Class 181 locomotives were used. In France, BB15000 or BB16500 locomotives took over the train. These changing locomotive combinations open up many possibilities for varied operational scenes along the international route in the model layout.
The use of through-cars also made the train particularly interesting. To connect Styria, through-cars were operated from Graz as the EC 116, which then merged with the EC 64 in Salzburg. Two of these cars terminated in Munich. Such operational details allow for varied scenes and make the “Mozart” an exciting subject for prototypical model railroading enthusiasts.
ÖBB Passenger Cars for Era IV
The set is designed in N scale and belongs to the passenger car category. Its association with the ÖBB railway company gives the model a distinct Austrian character. Thanks to the 2L DC system, the minimum curve radius of 228 mm, and the NEM-compliant coupler shaft with KK kinematics, the set integrates well into compatible N-gauge layouts and train formations.
If you’d like to recreate the EC 64 “Mozart” on your layout or expand your ÖBB car lineup with two matching Bmz passenger cars, the ASM Arndt Spezial Modelle 24001 2-Car Set is an excellent addition. Bring international long-distance service from Vienna to Paris to your N-gauge model railroad.
