Bemo 3647301 MOB Ast 181 control car "GPX" Product Details
The example: The introduction of a new route from Montreux to Interlaken in December 2022 has greatly improved a very important connection for many commuters and tourists. Until now, if you wanted to get from one place to another by train, you had to take a detour and change trains. But what stood in the way of an earlier implementation of the connection? This was mainly the fact that the journey in Montreux starts on narrow-gauge meter tracks but has to end in Interlaken on standard-gauge tracks. In addition, the platform heights at the stations in the two towns differ. The solution to both problems can be found halfway along the line in Zweisimmen. There, both the bogies are adjusted to the corresponding track dimensions and the car bodies are brought to the correct height. As this is done at slow speed, it is no longer necessary to change trains. On the meter track from Montreux to Zweisimmen, the train consists of two control cars and two panorama cars and is powered by a Ge 4/4 electric locomotive. An additional low-floor carriage, which is normally only used on narrow-gauge tracks, was not given permission to run on standard-gauge tracks, as heavy freight and passenger traffic also travels there, which is why the frame thickness of the low-floor carriage did not meet the minimum requirements. As a conversion would have been too expensive, no such wagon is being built for the time being, but special low-floor wagons for this route are already being manufactured by Stadler Rail. Between Zweisimmen and Interlaken, a BLS Re 465 electric locomotive is used to drive the train set. As this has a different coupling to the driving trailer, an interface wagon is also used, which has both types of coupling and can therefore translate.
About the model: A special question also arises when realizing such a train on a model scale. What gauge should be used to represent such a special train, which is used both as a narrow-gauge and standard-gauge version? Bemo has decided to also produce the model version of the train as a narrow gauge version in H0m and as a standard gauge version in H0, for both direct and alternating current. Since the interface car is only used on standard gauge tracks, it is not available as a narrow gauge version. The modern and very attractive design of the original cars is reproduced excellently. This cab control car has interior fittings that are shown to their best advantage thanks to the interior lighting. Another eye-catcher is the illuminated train destination display, which is one of the locomotive's functions in addition to the headlights. Thanks to a Next18 interface, these can be further extended by installing a digital decoder.
