Brawa 65079 passenger car B4mgle, DR, Ep.III Product Details
About the model: The DR B4mgle passenger car has impressive full-scale windows and printed window frames that give the model a realistic and authentic appearance. The model also has a multi-colored painted interior and close coupler kinematics in accordance with the NEM standard. All of this is rounded off with precise printing on a green paint scheme.
About the prototype: Like the DB, the DR also struggled with the enormous maintenance costs of the outdated wooden compartment cars after the Second World War. For this reason, the Deutsche Reichsbahn also decided to fully refurbish the underframes to a uniform length. In 1963, the first coaches built according to this scheme were handed over to the DR by Raw Halberstadt. This process was soon abandoned due to the poor condition of the old, usable assemblies used. It was decided to build the wagons entirely from new components, and the "Görlitz V" axle-less bogie, which had only recently been developed, was used as the running gear. The chosen length of 18.7 m resulted from the structural conditions of the manufacturing plant. From 1963 to 1977, 3030 "Bghwe" type coaches were built, which could be seen in almost every DR passenger train in the seventies and eighties. Initially, the coaches were used in express trains in particular due to their thoroughly contemporary comfort and thus also reached destinations in the Federal Republic of Germany. They were regularly seen in Nuremberg, Hamburg and the Ruhr area. When they first appeared, their paintwork was green with a decorative stripe running under the windows and a black contrasting solebar. While the DR still planned to rebuild the coaches, including with new windows and new interior fittings, they were withdrawn from service after the unification of the two German railroads due to the changed traffic conditions until 1995. Vehicles of this type can still be seen in service today at DBAG as well as at many clubs and museum railroads.
