Brawa 65080 Speisewagen WRg 'Städteexpress', DR, Ep.IV Product Details
About the model: BRAWA has produced the 1:160 scale model of the DR's WRg "Städteexpress" dining car with great attention to detail. The car shines with prototypical paint schemes and the finest printing. In addition to an authentic appearance, the model has been provided with further details, such as a multi-color painted interior and close coupler kinematics according to the NEM standard. In addition, the car has already been prepared for retrofitting interior lighting.
About the prototype: Like the DB, the DR also struggled after World War II with the enormous maintenance expense of the outdated wooden design compartment cars. Therefore, the Deutsche Reichsbahn also decided to fully refurbish the underframes, to uniform length. In 1963, the first cars built according to this scheme were handed over to the DR by the Raw Halberstadt. This procedure was soon abandoned due to the poor condition of the old serviceable assemblies used. It was decided to build the cars completely from new components, and the newly developed "Görlitz V" bogie without axle brackets was used as the running gear. The chosen length of 18.7 m was a result of the structural conditions at the manufacturer's plant. Between 1963 and 1977, 3030 cars of the type "Bghwe" were built, which could thus be seen in almost every DR passenger train in the 1970s and 1980s. Initially, the cars were used especially in express trains due to their thoroughly contemporary comfort and thus also reached destinations in the Federal Republic. They were regularly seen in Nuremberg, Hamburg and the Ruhr area. When they first appeared, their paint scheme was green with a decorative stripe running under the windows and a long beam in black. While the DR still planned to rebuild the cars, including with new windows and new interior furnishings, they were retired from service after the unification of the two German railroads due to the changed traffic conditions until 1995. Vehicles of this type can still be seen in service today, both with DBAG and with many clubs and museum railroads.
