Description

Brawa 65088 N Luggage Car F4, SBB, Ep. II Product Details

Brawa 65088 N F4 Baggage Car, SBB, Era II – A true-to-prototype model of a historic baggage car

The Brawa 65088 F4 Baggage Car has been faithfully reproduced on a 1:160 scale as a model of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) from Era II. The model features numerous visual details and precise craftsmanship that authentically capture the historic character of the baggage car, thereby enhancing your N-gauge layout.

Historical Background and Prototype

Between 1855 and 1892, the Swiss private railroads—the predecessors of the SBB—procured four-axle through cars based on the so-called “American System.” At the time of the SBB’s founding in 1902, approximately 300 of these cars were in service and were taken over. In addition to third-class passenger cars, the fleet also included mixed-class cars for second and third class as well as baggage cars. These baggage cars, like the passenger cars, were taken over during nationalization but disappeared from the operational fleet much more quickly. Due to their large cargo space, they were ideally suited as service cars and for stationary use as storage space. A special historical treasure is the four-axle car of the American BC4 type with the SBB number 4952, which has been restored and can be viewed at the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne.

Model description and technical details

The model has a length over buffers of 92.20 mm and bears the road number 18793. It features printed window frames, precise paintwork and decals, as well as scale-accurate windows and side panels. The close-coupling mechanism, compliant with the NEM standard, enables realistic and smooth coupling. Wheel sets with top-mounted bearings and a fully painted car body round out the high-quality appearance. Separately attached handrails and steps provide additional details and enhance the model’s fidelity to the prototype. The interior fittings also give the car a realistic interior.
