Brawa 65089 N C4 Passenger Car, SBB, Ep. II Product Details

Brawa 65089 N C4 Passenger Car, SBB, Era II – Authentic Model of a Historic Swiss Car

The Brawa 65089 C4 Passenger Car in 1:160 scale is a true-to-prototype replica of a historic four-axle through car from the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) dating from Era II. The model features numerous visual details and a highly detailed design that authentically captures the vehicle’s character, making it ideal for N-gauge layouts.

Historical Background and Prototype

Between 1855 and 1892, the Swiss private railroads—the predecessors of the SBB—procured four-axle through cars based on the so-called “American System.” At the time of the Swiss Federal Railways’ founding in 1902, approximately 300 of these cars were still in service and were taken over. In addition to third-class cars, the fleet also included mixed-class cars for second and third class as well as baggage cars. Due to their large cargo space, the latter were often used as service cars or for stationary storage purposes. Unlike in Germany, Switzerland even preserved a four-axle car of the American design: the BC4, bearing SBB number 4952, was restored and can now be viewed at the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne.

Model Description and Features

The model has a length over buffers of 92.20 mm and bears the road number 9410. It features printed window frames, precise paintwork and lettering, as well as scale-accurate windows and side panels. The close-coupling mechanism complies with the NEM standard and ensures realistic train formation. Additionally, separately attached handrails and steps are included, which enhance the authentic overall appearance. A detailed interior rounds out the model and provides a realistic view inside the car.
