The German chemical company Röhm, based in Darmstadt, Hesse, is owned by the American private equity fund Advent International (off-market equity or private equity) and has around 3,500 employees worldwide. In addition to 13 German locations, the company also has plants in the USA, China and South Africa. The company was founded in 1907 by the chemist and entrepreneur Otto Röhm and the businessman Otto Haas as Röhm & Haas GmbH, the forerunner of today's Röhm GmbH. The breakthrough came in 1933 with the development of acrylic glass, which has become indispensable in today's world.
