Busch 53901 IFA P3 "Zivilverteidigung"

The successor to the 65 hp strong P2M with its cast iron engine block was the 75 hp P3 in the 1950s, which now had an aluminum engine block. The all-terrain GDR car was developed in Zwickau/Hohenstein Ernstthal. The vehicle's OM6 35L six-cylinder petrol engine (designed by Horch before the Second World War) was produced at VEB Sachsenring Automobilwerke Zwickau. And so, from the 1990s onwards, the P3 was often referred to as the "Sachsenring P3" or "Horch P3".

The vehicle was initially manufactured at the VEB Kooperationszentrale Automobilbau Karl-Marx-Stadt (1958-1962) and then from 1962 at the Ludwigsfelde automobile plant. After pilot series and test samples, the P3 was then produced in series from 1962 to 1965. The last scheduled model rolled off the production line in September 1965, meaning that 1007 P3s were produced in Ludwigsfelde.
