Description

ESU 36488 control car n-Wagen BD4nf-59, 96354 Esn, DB, Ep. III (DC) Product Details

ESU 36488 H0 BD4nf-59 "Silberling" cab control car, DB, Era III: True-to-scale reproduction of the German commuter car

The ESU 36488 H0 BD4nf-59 driving trailer brings the characteristic "Silberling" of the German Federal Railroad (DB) in Era III to the model railway layout with its detailed design and high-quality equipment. This model, a typical n-car, is used as a control car in local traffic and to reinforce express trains. Equipped with DC wheelsets and numerous technical details such as a multi-colored interior and separately switchable interior lighting, the control car is both visually and functionally impressive and fits perfectly into any H0 layout of the 1960s and 70s.

The prototype: The "Silberlinge" of the German Federal Railroad for local and long-distance traffic

Between 1959 and 1977, the DB procured over 4800 n-cars, including driving trailers, which were used in various train formations. Due to their uncoated, brushed outer skin and the striking pattern, the carriages were nicknamed "Silberlinge". The weight savings achieved by omitting the paintwork enabled a lighter construction compared to the pre-war carriages. The first series was limited to 120 km/h as it was equipped with a D62 axle generator. With improvements, later cars reached 140 km/h and even higher operating efficiency.

DB continued to develop the "Silberlinge", and so from the 1980s they were also modernized on the outside and painted in different colour variants, such as pebble grey-orange for the City-Bahn or later in mint turquoise-light grey. Due to their adaptability, robustness and versatility, the carriages have remained in use to this day and are thus symbolic of the German railroad tradition in local transport.

Technical features and high-quality equipment of the model

The ESU BD4nf-59 driving trailer is equipped with many detailed functions that make the model particularly authentic. The separately switchable lighting ensures that the front, driver's cab, luggage compartment and passenger compartment lighting can be controlled independently. With its multi-colored interior and the separately inserted bench seats, the car is also an eye-catcher inside. Free-standing grab rails, sprung bellows and openwork steps underline the model's attention to detail.

Thanks to the passable minimum radius of 360 mm, the car can be used on a wide variety of layouts. If you want to operate the control car on an AC system, you can simply equip it with the separately available AC wheel set (item number MBS173138).

True-to-original design and high-quality running gear

The model is equipped with true-to-scale bogies that reproduce the brake system in detail. The axle bearing plates and half axles ensure frictionless current collection. The shaft wheel disks are reproduced in the correct style and the bogies are equipped with block or disk brake systems, making the cab control car a technically and visually faithful replica of the DB prototype. A U-coupler in the standard guide shaft ensures a safe and stable connection between the cars.

Optional interior lighting for a realistic appearance

For an even more realistic appearance, the ESU control car can be retrofitted with ESU interior lighting. This creates a particularly atmospheric illumination of the interior, which ensures a lively driving experience on the model railway layout. The lighting can be switched on and off individually to match the rest of the train set.

Recommendation for model railroaders: The ESU 36488 BD4nf-59 driving trailer as a stylish highlight for H0 layouts

The ESU 36488 H0 BD4nf-59 driving trailer is a must for model railroaders who want to capture the history and atmosphere of German local transport from Era III on their layout. With its true-to-original details and high-quality equipment, this model authentically brings the DB "Silberling" to the model railroad layout. Thanks to its flexible application possibilities and the option of converting to alternating current, the control car is a real asset for all H0 enthusiasts.
