The class 44 - one of the best-known and most powerful freight steam locomotives of the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft (DRG) - is a symbol of the power, endurance and technical expertise of the pre-war era. Designed as a triplet with three cylinders, it was specially developed for heavy freight traffic from 1926. Design & workmanship

The model impresses with many authentic design details such as high-set wind deflectors in DR design, pumps at the front, an ÜK driver's cab (transitional design) and an open-worked circulation plate with apron. Particularly striking: the clear view between the boiler and running gear as well as the central driving axles with reduced wheel flanges for more prototypical accuracy. The fine driver's cab equipment provides additional realism on a small scale.

Technical features & special functions

The locomotive draws power from both the locomotive and the tender - this increases operating safety, especially with turnouts and short interruptions. The 3 headlights at the front change automatically with the direction of travel and are particularly harmonious. The model is equipped with an NEM 355 coupling shaft and is therefore compatible with other high-quality N-gauge vehicles.

Historical background

The first ten BR 44 locomotives with the 1'E h3 axle arrangement were delivered from 1926. The aim was to haul up to 1,200 tons of freight trains in low mountain ranges and 600 tons over steep ramps. Due to the increasing demand, the series soon went into mass production and was further developed in numerous variants. It continued to be used in Era IV - modernized, but unmistakable.

Compatibility & expansion options

The model is suitable for all N-gauge layouts with a minimum radius of 192 mm. It fits perfectly in train scenarios with heavy freight trains of the German State Railroad of Era IV. Thanks to standardized couplers, easy integration into existing fleets is possible.
