Fleischmann 7570007 electric locomotive BR 143, DB AG Ep. VI Product Details
When the Deutsche Reichsbahn decided to electrify all major main lines in 1980, there was a need for powerful universal locomotives. Building on the experience gained with the class 250, the prototype of the class 212 was developed in 1982 as a 140 km/h variant of the 243, which went into series production in 1984, with an output of 3,720 kW and a top speed of 120 km/h.
From 1990, 150 locomotives were leased from the Deutsche Bundesbahn and used as the 143 series, mainly in the Freiburg area and in the Ruhr region. After the unification of the two German state railroads in 1994, the remaining locomotives were also redesignated and have been in service throughout Germany ever since.
