Hobbytrain H3055 N Electric Locomotive E60, DRG - The "Iron" of Era II
The electric locomotive E60 of the Deutsche Reichsbahn was a response to the need for electric shunting locomotives in the newly electrified stations around Munich in the 1920s. From 1927, these compact and strikingly designed locomotives were delivered in three series by AEG and SSW. With its typical silhouette - a long, low front end and a driver's cab at the end - it was popularly nicknamed the "iron". The model version presented here depicts the locomotive with the road number E60 09 in 1938, stationed in the Munich station.
Technical details of the model
The model is in N scale and designed for the two-wire direct current system (DC). It has a bell-shaped armature motor with a flywheel, which, in combination with the current consumption across all axles, ensures excellent running characteristics. A white/red light change adapts to the direction of travel and emphasizes the operational prototype fidelity. The locomotive has an NEM coupler pocket with close coupler kinematics, but is not digital and has no sound.
Historically authentic - operating condition 1938
The model conversion corresponds to the condition of the locomotive in 1938 under the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft (DRG). At that time, the E60 was still equipped with its original HIIs2D pantograph with two contact strips. The model shows the locomotive before the 1958/59 conversion, during which shunting platforms were later added, among other things. The version shown here thus offers a piece of original railroad history of Era II.
Detailed design for connoisseurs
Hobbytrain has taken all of the design differences into account in detail for this model, so that a particularly high degree of faithfulness to the original is guaranteed. This makes the locomotive not only a functional part of any N layout, but also a valuable collector's item for fans of historic electric locomotives.
