The prototype was built over 1.6 million times between 1980 and 1991 in the VEB Fahrzeug- und Jagdwaffenwerk "Ernst Thälmann" Suhl as a moped/mokick under the Simson brand name. It is the direct successor to the Simson S50.
It had an air-cooled 1-cylinder two-stroke petrol engine with a displacement of 49.8 cm³ and 2.7 kW / 3.7 hp at 5500 rpm, which enabled top speeds of 60 km/h.
