Kres 1816D BR 675 "Museum Train" multiple unit, Ep. V: A historic multiple unit in TT scale
The Kres 1816D BR 675 multiple unit train is a digitally controlled model of a historic multiple unit train that ran on the tracks of the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) in Era V. With a length over buffers (LüP) of 820 mm and equipped with detailed interior lighting as well as a direction-dependent LED light change (red-white), this multiple unit is an impressive model for TT layouts. The model is designed for 2-wire direct current operation (DC) and offers a high level of detail and functionality that makes the multiple unit a real eye-catcher even on modern model railroad layouts.
The prototype: BR 675 multiple unit (VT 18.16)
The VT 18.16, later known as the BR 675, was presented to the public for the first time at the Leipzig Spring Fair in 1963. Developed and built by VEB Waggonbau Görlitz, this elegant multiple unit was designed for international long-distance transportation. It was used on routes such as the Vindobona (Berlin-Vienna), the Berlinaren (Berlin-Malmö) and the Karlex (Berlin-Karlovy Vary). By 1968, a total of 7 further multiple units had followed, as well as additional carriages, which made it possible to expand the trains into five- and six-car units. These multiple units shaped the international passenger services of the Deutsche Reichsbahn and were in service until the 1980s.
