Description

LGB 20284 G steam locomotive Mogul, Nevada Central Railroad, Ep.II, DC-MFX-sound Product Details

This is a model of a Nevada Central Railroad type Mogul steam locomotive. The paint scheme and lettering are prototypical for Era II. All of the driving wheel sets are powered by a powerful Bühler motor with ball bearings and traction tires. Equipped with an mfx/DCC decoder with many light and sound functions. Wheel-synchronized steam exhaust and cylinder steam. Many separately applied details. Length over buffers 67 cm.

The Nevada Central Railroad was a narrow gauge railroad between Battle Mountain and Austin, Nevada. The railroad was built to connect Austin, the center of a productive silver mining area, with the transcontinental rail line. The 148 km long line was put into operation in 1880 and was used for both passenger and freight transportation. The Nevada Central was profitable as long as the mines in Austin were fully utilized, but by the mid-1930s most of them were already closed, so the line was shut down in 1938. Various steam locomotives were used on the line, including those of the "Mogul" type, such as the number "6" or the number "2" still in service today on the Grizzly Flats Railroad. Typical for the locomotives used there were the wood firing and the large spark arrester required as a result. The wagons used were the typical bogie wagons with skylight roofs, and there were various types such as seat-only wagons or semi-baggage wagons. Both open and covered freight wagons were used for the goods wagons in the usual wooden design of the time.
