Description

Mehlhose 210104004 H0 Spähpanzerwagen SPW40 P2 with Raketenaufbau, NVA Product Details

Rocket-Ready on Wheels – Mehlhose 210104004 H0 SPW-40P2 with Rocket Mount (NVA)

With the Mehlhose 210104004 SPW-40P2 with rocket launcher, Mehlhose brings a spectacular special variant of the famous BRDM-2 to your H0 model railroad layout. This model depicts a rare NVA variant equipped with a special rocket launch system—a vehicle that, in reality, was intended for tactical fire support and special missions.

Prototype: The Soviet BRDM-2 in GDR service

The BRDM-2 was developed in the Soviet Union beginning in the mid-1960s and was also supplied to the GDR from 1966 through 1988, where it was used by the National People’s Army (NVA) under the designation SPW-40P2. With all-wheel drive, amphibious capability, and a robust chassis, it was the ideal vehicle for reconnaissance, commando operations, and—as shown here—for missile launches on tactical battlefields.

Technically upgraded for special missions

Equipped with a V8 gasoline engine (103 kW/140 PS), the 7-metric-ton vehicle reached speeds of up to 95 km/h and had a range of 700–1,000 km. The missile mount, which was mounted on the roof of the armored hull, was part of special retrofits carried out by the NVA for specific combat situations—an impressive example of military adaptation within the Warsaw Pact.

Highly Detailed and Rare Model

The 1:87 (H0) scale model is finely detailed and features the typical NVA camouflage paint scheme. Particularly noteworthy is the intricate rendering of the missile mount with all its characteristic design features. This makes the vehicle ideal for military dioramas, combat exercises, or commando scenarios from Era IV.

An addition to Eastern Bloc military scenes

Perfectly combinable with other NVA vehicles such as the SPW-40P2, TLF16 GMK, or W50 FP—this model offers an exceptional operational variant that holds a special place even in the collections of experienced GDR military model builders.
