Big Railway Operation in 1:160 Scale

Minitrix News 2025 – N Gauge Models, Trains & Highlights

Newly tooled Class 110.3, Swabian Crocodile E 93, heavy Class 155, modern Vectron Dual Mode, Murgtäler leisure express, SVG trains, GOLDENPASSLINE and distinctive steam-locomotive themes: the 2025 model year combines railway history, modern digital technology and long train formations in a compact space.

2025 Model Year

What Makes the Minitrix News 2025 Special?

The Minitrix News 2025 for N gauge combines an unusually broad journey through railway history with modern technical functions. The 1:160 scale allows long passenger and freight trains, generous station scenes and extensive visible routes in considerably less space than larger scales.

The official programme ranges from historic steam locomotives and Reichsbahn subjects through classic Deutsche Bundesbahn electric locomotives to the Vectron Dual Mode, DB Cargo, private railway companies and modern Swiss passenger traffic. Matching coach families and digital starter sets complete the range.

New Toolings and Technical Upgrades

Particularly important engineering subjects include the new Class 110.3 “Bügelfalte”, the short 2'2 T30 tender for the Class 01 Club model, the Bduu 497.2 local-service coach and the Class 249 dual-mode locomotive. Existing model families also received technical upgrades. The Class 155, for example, features digitally raised and lowered pantographs.

A New-Products Programme for Complete Trains

Train formation is one of the strongest aspects of the 2025 range. The BLS Re 420 is not presented in isolation, but can be combined with a complete GOLDENPASSLINE coach formation. Matching coaches and driving trailers are available for the Murgtäler leisure express. SVG coaches similarly support complete excursion and special trains, while the E 93 combines with a long ore-wagon formation to reproduce the Geislingen Steige theme.

Current Status
The historic new-products programme and today's active shop range are treated separately.

Some models from the original programme are no longer part of the active range. They remain relevant when explaining the 2025 model year, but they are not shown as current product cards or purchase recommendations. The live finder displays only currently checked product pages explicitly assigned to the 2025 range.

From the Short Tender to the Vectron Dual Mode

Eight Defining Minitrix Themes of 2025

Class 01 with Short Tender

The 2025 Club model represents DB express locomotive 01 058 with the short 2'2 T30 tender. This particular tender was newly engineered for the model.

Class 89.8 with Sound

Minitrix introduced a three-axle production steam locomotive with integrated sound for the first time. The original 2025 model is no longer part of the active shop range.

E 93 “German Crocodile”

The 175th anniversary of the Geislingen Steige is marked by a heavy E 93 of the DRG and matching ore self-unloading wagons.

Class 110.3 “Bügelfalte”

The classic Deutsche Bundesbahn electric locomotive was completely re-engineered. Zinc die-cast components, sound, lighting and modern digital technology define the model.

Class 155

The “railway container” represents heavy freight traffic. The 2025 model features a metal-filled body and digitally raised and lowered pantographs.

Vectron Dual Mode Class 249

Modern DB Cargo technology combines electric main-line operation with running on non-electrified sidings and branch routes.

Murgtäler Leisure Express

Newly tooled Bduu coaches and a driving trailer create a modern excursion and regional-traffic theme that works convincingly even on smaller N-gauge layouts.

GOLDENPASSLINE

Re 420 and matching BLS EW III coach sets form a complete Swiss train in the distinctive aluminium-white and luminous-green colour scheme.

Major Steam-Railway History on 9 mm Track

Class 01 and Class 89.8 as the Steam Highlights of 2025

The Club model focuses on a distinctive Deutsche Bundesbahn express locomotive: 01 058 with an original boiler, Witte smoke deflectors and the short 2'2 T30 tender. The newly engineered tender is the principal construction highlight of the Club model. A digital decoder, sound, firebox flickering, cab lighting and running-gear lighting complement the historic form.

Why Was the Small Class 89.8 Remarkable?

The second steam theme is almost the opposite of the powerful Class 01. The three-axle Class 89.8 tank locomotive represents branch-line and shunting operation. In 2025, Minitrix implemented this compact vehicle type as a three-axle production steam locomotive with sound for the first time, demonstrating how far digital and sound technology can now be integrated into very small N-gauge vehicles.

No Archived Product Link
The former Class 89.8 remains part of the history of the programme, but not the current product selection.

Its shop product page is now marked as no longer belonging to the active range. It is therefore deliberately omitted from the product finder and from current product links.

Railway History as a Complete Layout Theme

175 Years of the Geislingen Steige with E 93 and an Ore Train

The Geislingen Steige opened in 1850. Minitrix marks its 175th anniversary with a particularly attractive model railway train formation: the E 93, nicknamed the “German Crocodile” because of its distinctive bonnets, hauling ore-loaded self-unloading wagons over the steep route.

This creates a strong layout motif: double-track electrified main line, rock and cutting scenery, retaining walls, broad curves and a heavy freight train. N gauge plays to its strengths here, as even a long ore-wagon formation requires considerably less space than in H0.

E 93 05 in Model Form

The 2025 E 93 05 represents the DRG in Era II. The model has a digital decoder and sound, six powered axles, warm-white LED lighting and digitally switchable cab lighting. The metal-filled plastic body increases the weight and supports the tractive effort required for a heavy freight train.

Deutsche Bundesbahn, Leisure Traffic and Switzerland

Passenger-Train News from the Murgtäler to the GOLDENPASSLINE

The newly tooled Class 110.3 is one of the most important German locomotive themes of the year. The 110 318-3 represents the classic Deutsche Bundesbahn condition of Era IV. A zinc die-cast body and frame, mfx/DCC decoder, sound, LED lighting and cab lighting combine the familiar cobalt-blue “Bügelfalte” with modern N-gauge technology.

Murgtäler Leisure Express and SVG

Modern leisure trains have a completely different character. Coach set 18258 represents the RE 7 Murgtäler leisure express. The Bduu 497.2 coaches are newly engineered and can be combined with suitable additional vehicles to create a typical excursion train. SVG coaches with bicycle-transport vehicles and driving trailers likewise demonstrate the growing importance of bicycle and leisure traffic in modern passenger-train ranges.

Swiss Elegance with BLS

The GOLDENPASSLINE is a particularly coherent train theme. Minitrix combines the BLS Re 420 with four-coach set 18293 and two-coach extension set 18294. The EW III coaches in aluminium white and luminous green feature close-coupling mechanisms and are prepared for interior lighting. The larger set also includes a driving trailer.

From DRG Ore Trains to DB Cargo

Heavy and Modern Freight Trains in the Minitrix 2025 Range

Class 155 232-2 represents heavy German freight traffic. The prototype originated as DR Class 250 and remained in service with DB AG for many years. The model combines a metal-filled plastic body with a digital decoder, sound and digitally raised or lowered pantographs. Container, tank and other heavy freight wagons are particularly suitable behind it.

Class 249 Brings Dual-Mode Operation to N Gauge

The Vectron Dual Mode family represents a modern operating concept that works particularly well on a model railway. Under overhead wiring, the prototype operates electrically; on non-electrified sections it can continue without a locomotive change. Suitable layout themes include container terminals, industrial sidings and modern freight yards.

25 Freight-Wagon Hits in the Source's 2025 Shop Snapshot

The source snapshot includes self-unloading wagons, container wagons, refrigerated wagons, tank wagons and covered freight wagons. The extensive DRG ore-train theme is particularly striking and combines especially well with the E 93 and the Geislingen Steige anniversary concept.

One Gauge – Many Railway Worlds

Why the Minitrix News 2025 Is Consistently N Gauge

Minitrix is the N-gauge brand within the Märklin/Trix world. The scale is 1:160 and the track gauge is 9 mm. Vehicles are designed for the two-rail DC system. Many current locomotives additionally feature decoders for DCC and mfx as well as factory-fitted sound.

Feature Minitrix N Gauge Meaning for the Layout
Scale 1:160 long trains and extensive scenery in a compact area
Track Gauge 9 mm compact stations and more generous route planning
Power System Two-Rail DC classic N-gauge two-rail system
Digital DCC / mfx individual locomotive control and numerous special functions
Typical Strength long train formations ideal for express trains, ore trains, container trains and passenger services
Important When Choosing Products
Minitrix 2025 is not an H0, TT, Z or garden railway vehicle range.

This landing page therefore treats genuine Minitrix N-gauge models as its editorial focus. Shop bundles or incorrect category assignments do not change the actual gauge of the Minitrix vehicle range.

From Locomotives to Digital Starter Sets

What About Analogue Starter Sets?

The earlier landing page linked both digital and analogue starter sets. Analogue starter sets remain part of the broader Minitrix environment, but the source's current 2025 snapshot did not identify a corresponding active analogue starter set carrying the 2025 new-product designation. This page therefore does not artificially present an outdated analogue set as a current 2025 new product.
