Piko 21710 H0 electric locomotive111 122, DB, Ep. IV Product Details
Piko 21710 H0 Class 111 122 electric locomotive, DB, Ep. IV - Universal locomotive for fast passenger train service
With the Piko 21710 BR 111 122, PIKO brings a beautifully designed and detailed replica of the popular universal locomotive of the German Federal Railroad to the H0 DC tracks. The Era IV locomotive impresses with its high degree of prototypical fidelity, numerous retrofittable digital functions and the typical DB look of the 1970s.
Technology & appearance - harmonious down to the last detail
The BR 111 model is designed for maximum speeds of up to 160 km/h and in reality combines reliability with versatility in local and long-distance traffic. PIKO realizes this in the model with digitally switchable driver's cab lighting, engine room lighting and illuminated train destination display (after decoder retrofitting) true to the original. Two finely crafted metal pantographs and a true-to-scale engine room interior emphasize the high quality of detail.
Historical prototype: Progress on rails
Between 1974 and 1984, 227 units of the class 111 were built as the modern successor to the class 110. Manufacturers such as Krauss-Maffei, Henschel and Siemens worked together to create a pioneering locomotive design that proved particularly successful in fast passenger services. The locomotives were used throughout Germany - especially on S-Bahn lines in the Ruhr region with train destination displays and eye-catching paintwork.
Operational use & compatibility
With a length of 193 mm, the locomotive is also ideally suited for smaller layouts. It runs safely on radii from 358 mm and can be safely integrated into passenger or S-Bahn trains thanks to its NEM shafts with close coupler sets. The matching PIKO sound decoder #56572 is optionally available for sound lovers.
